Why Your Business Website Isn't Getting Leads (And How to Fix It)

If your business website isn't bringing in leads, one of these 6 issues is probably why, and all of them are fixable. Here's what to check first.

Most business websites that don’t generate leads have one of six fixable problems: they break on phones, make people call to get started, don’t show up in Google’s local results, load slowly, look generic, or lose the lead after the form is submitted. Most can be fixed without a full rebuild.

Your next customer is searching Google right now. If your website doesn’t show up, or shows up looking broken on their phone, they’re already gone. They picked the company down the road, and you never knew they were looking.

The frustrating part is that most of the problems behind this are fixable.

Here’s what to look for.

Why Isn’t My Business Website Getting Leads?

Usually because visitors can’t use it on a phone, can’t get started without calling, can’t find it in Google’s local results, give up while it loads, don’t trust what they see, or fill out a form that nobody answers.

1. Does Your Site Work on a Phone?

If visitors have to zoom to read, can’t tap buttons cleanly or wait for images, most of them leave, and that’s most of your traffic.

More than half of web traffic now comes from phones (source: StatCounter). If your site looks fine on a desktop but falls apart on a phone, with tiny text, buttons too small to tap or images that don’t load, most visitors leave within seconds.

Google also indexes and ranks the mobile version of your site. A site that doesn’t work well on phones gets buried. Fewer people find you. Fewer people reach out.

How to check right now: Pull up your website on your phone. Can you read it without zooming? Can you tap “Contact Us” without hitting the wrong thing? If anything feels off, it needs attention.

The fix: A responsive design that adapts to any screen. This is the baseline now, not an upgrade.

MedTech Consulting builds business websites that are mobile-first from the ground up, for companies across Lawrenceville, Snellville, Loganville, Monroe, Winder and the surrounding area.

2. Can Customers Get Started Without Calling?

Give people a way to book or request a quote online, and make it visible in the header and on every service page.

This one costs businesses more leads than almost anything else.

A lot of people, especially younger buyers, would rather book or request a quote online than call. If your only option is to call during business hours, many of them won’t. They’ll find a company that lets them fill out a request at 10 PM when they finally have a minute.

The fix: Add online booking or a short quote request form, and make it visible. Many CRMs and field service tools include a booking widget. The key is putting it in the header and on every service page, not burying it at the bottom of the Contact page.

3. Can Customers Find You on Google?

Showing up in local results takes a complete, regularly updated Google Business Profile, location-specific content on your site, consistent contact details across directories, and steady reviews.

Start with your Google Business Profile. The map pack at the top of local results gets a large share of the clicks when someone searches “commercial electrician near me” or “IT support Lawrenceville GA.” To show up there, you need a complete, regularly updated profile with accurate hours, services, photos and recent reviews.

Then look at your website’s local SEO. Your site needs location-specific content, not just your city but the communities you actually serve. A Grayson company should have content that mentions Grayson, Loganville and the surrounding area. Google uses this to decide who you’re relevant to.

The fix: Claim and complete your Google Business Profile. Add location-based content to your site. Keep your name, address and contact details consistent across directories. And ask happy customers for reviews. They matter more than most owners realize.

4. Does Your Site Load Fast Enough?

Aim for the main content to appear within about 2.5 seconds on a phone. Slow pages lose visitors before they see your offer, and they rank lower.

Visitors leave pages that make them wait, and Google’s Core Web Vitals guidance treats the main content loading within 2.5 seconds as good.

Slow speed hurts you twice: visitors leave before the page loads, and Google ranks you lower. A slow site isn’t just a technical annoyance. It’s a lead problem, and every week it goes unfixed, those leads go to a competitor who already dealt with it.

How to check: Go to Google PageSpeed Insights and enter your URL. It’s free and takes 30 seconds. A mobile score below 50 means you have a real problem.

The fix: Compress and resize images, move to better hosting if needed, and remove unnecessary plugins and scripts. Most slow sites can be made dramatically faster without a rebuild.

5. Does Your Site Give People a Reason to Trust You?

Real photos of your team and work, short bios, customer testimonials and a clear list of services and areas give visitors the confidence to reach out. Stock photos and a vague “About Us” don’t.

People hiring a local company want to feel confident before they ever reach out. If your site has generic images that look nothing like your shop or your crew, a vague “About Us” and no reviews, there’s nothing there to build that confidence.

Ask yourself: does your website answer “why should I hire this company instead of the one down the street?”

The fix:

  • Add real photos of your team, your office or shop, and your work
  • Write short team bios that go beyond titles: how long they’ve done this, what they care about
  • Feature customer testimonials prominently (with permission)
  • Clearly list your services, the kinds of customers you serve and the areas you cover

6. What Happens After Someone Fills Out Your Form?

If submissions go to someone who left, land in spam or wait days for a reply, the lead is lost. Route forms to a shared inbox or CRM, assign someone to respond, and send an automatic confirmation.

Sometimes the website is doing its job and the leads die after they arrive.

Common culprits: the form emails someone who left the company two years ago, submissions land in spam, nobody’s assigned to respond, or replies go out two days later when the prospect has already hired someone else.

The fix: Test every form on your site this week. Route submissions to a shared inbox or CRM, not one person. Decide who responds and how fast. And set up an automatic confirmation so people know their request went through. If you want help automating that follow-up, that’s exactly the kind of thing workflow automation handles well.

How Can You Tell Where Your Website Is Losing Leads?

Run through these six questions. Every “no” is a place where leads are leaking out.

Run through this checklist:

  • [ ] Does my website load in under 3 seconds on mobile?
  • [ ] Can a new customer request a quote or book without calling?
  • [ ] Does my Google Business Profile have current info and recent reviews?
  • [ ] Do my team photos and bios feel real, not generic?
  • [ ] Is the main call to action visible on every page?
  • [ ] Did my last test form submission arrive quickly and get a response?

Every “no” on that list is a place where leads are leaking out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my website get traffic but no leads?

Traffic without leads usually means visitors can't find a clear next step or don't trust what they see. Common causes are no online booking or quote form, a call to action buried at the bottom of the page, a site that's hard to use on a phone, generic stock photos with no reviews, or forms that send submissions to an inbox nobody checks. Test the site on a phone and submit your own form to find the leak.

How much does it cost to fix a website that isn't generating leads?

It depends on what's wrong. Targeted fixes like speeding up the site, rewriting service pages or fixing broken forms cost far less than a full rebuild. If a rebuild is needed, MedTech Consulting websites start at $2,500.

How long does it take to see results from local SEO improvements?

Local SEO changes typically start showing movement within 60 to 90 days. Google Business Profile improvements often show up faster, sometimes within a few weeks.

Do I need to rebuild my entire website, or can the problems be fixed?

Often, targeted fixes make a real difference without a rebuild. Improving mobile performance, adding online booking or quote requests, and completing your Google Business Profile are high-impact, lower-cost moves.

How do I know if my website forms are actually working?

Submit a test through every form on your site, then confirm it arrived where it should, quickly, and didn't land in spam. Repeat this monthly and any time someone leaves the company or email settings change.
